Profile
Mr. Conrad Sackey is Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, appointed in August 2023 by President Julius Maada Bio. A fourth-generation educator, he brings over 20 years of experience in education policy, institutional reform, and international development. His appointment reflects a strong commitment to advancing the country’s Human Capital Development agenda.
He holds a Master of Arts in Education from University College London’s Institute of Education and a BSc (Hons) in Economics from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. He is also a Chartered Director (UK) and has earned professional certifications in education leadership, business management, and teaching.
Before returning to Sierra Leone, he held senior leadership positions in the UK, including CEO of the Windsor Fellowship, Strategic Manager of the London East Connexions Partnership, and Additional Inspector for Ofsted. In Sierra Leone, he previously served at the Teaching Service Commission, leading teacher workforce reforms.
Minister Sackey is a Board Member of the African Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), and a Travelling Fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. He is currently leading the implementation of the Education Sector Plan (2022–2026), focusing on inclusive access, foundational learning, digital transformation, and teacher development.
