Profile
Mrs. Nabeela Farida Tunis is the current Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. She brings to the role extensive experience in development management, international relations, diplomacy, governance, and environmental and gender policy.
Prior to this appointment, she served as Regional Minister of the Western Region (2021–2023), where she led inclusive development initiatives focused on community-driven governance, infrastructure rehabilitation, and youth and women’s empowerment. She also held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (2019–2021), during which she was instrumental in Sierra Leone’s diplomatic resurgence and the reform of the country’s foreign service.
Earlier, as Minister of Planning and Economic Development (2018–2019), Mrs. Tunis led the production of key national policy frameworks, coordinated development partners, and co-chaired international peacebuilding platforms. Her previous work with the United Nations in Sierra Leone included strategic roles in peacebuilding, youth engagement, and political inclusion.
She holds a Master’s degree in Rural Development and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English from the University of Sierra Leone, along with postgraduate certifications in peacebuilding, conflict management, environmental governance, gender, and human rights.
Mrs. Tunis is widely recognized for her leadership in promoting inclusive growth, good governance, and environmental sustainability, and continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Sierra Leone’s tourism and cultural heritage sector.
